My two main goals for the science internship this year are to be more patient during labs and research work, and to really understand what a research scientist does in real life. My first goal is important to me because I always try and rush through experiments because I never feel like I have enough time to finish them. However, now I have plenty of time and that one-on-one teaching/learning from whoever my mentor will be. I hope to be able to watch them closely and start to understand the nitty gritty behind real life research. This flows into my second goal, which is also really important to me because it can define what my future career might be. Maybe research is what I really want to be doing in my future, so it is important that I understand everything that the job entails.
I think two important characteristics would be creativity and precision. Creativity is extremely important because this is how new ideas are born. An open mind would lead to more creativity. Precision is also important, especially in lab work, because almost everything depends on something else. One has to be careful doing work, and be aware of everything around her.
